We collect only the limited information necessary to operate the Service and provide personalized recommendations:
- Information you provide directly: Name, email address, message content, golf handicap, years of golf experience, and city of residence;
- Mobile app-specific data (upon consent): Push notification token (FCM) for receiving push alerts, and mobile advertising identifier (AdMob AD-ID / IDFA) for ad performance measurement;
- Technical information: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system version, and general usage records;
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies: Used to support basic functions and analyze usage statistics.
The Service uses location information to improve search results and support automatic hole switching features during rounds.
- Real-Time GPS Coordinates: Collected via browser or mobile device after receiving your explicit permission. Real-time GPS coordinates are transmitted to our servers during search requests solely to process nearby golf course queries. They are not stored in our server database and are discarded immediately after processing. They remain temporarily stored only in your device's local storage (localStorage).
- Scope of Location Collection: Location is collected only while you are using the app or the watch app. During a round we collect it continuously to switch holes automatically, and the watch app displays an ongoing notification while it does so. We do not request background location permission, so location collection stops when you close the app.
- Battery Consumption Warning: Because GPS runs continuously during a round, battery consumption can increase significantly.
- City Geocoding Cache: The city you enter is transmitted to the Google Geocoding API, converted into the coordinates of that city's centre, and stored in our database. These coordinates are used solely to order nearby golf communities by distance and to suggest other players within a 30 km radius. We do not collect postal codes or street addresses — city-level coordinates are all we need.
- How to Opt Out: You may deny or revoke location access permissions in your browser or mobile OS settings at any time.
We use the collected information only for the following purposes:
- To respond to user inquiries and provide customer support;
- To provide and improve core features like course searches, scorecards, and friend recommendations;
- To analyze visit and usage patterns to optimize user experience;
- To detect unauthorized activities and secure the website and application;
- To comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights.
The Service uses Google Analytics, a web log analytics tool provided by Google Inc., to analyze usage patterns and improve our services.
- Collected Information: In-app activity logs, device information (OS, model, etc.), access IP address, and cookie data.
- Purpose of Use: Generating general usage statistics and improving user experience.
- How to Opt Out: Users can opt out of Google Analytics data collection by changing their browser cookie settings or adjusting their mobile device's ad tracking limitation settings.
We do not sell personal information for commercial purposes. To ensure reliable operations, we share and delegate data processing to trusted third-party service providers. Some cloud infrastructure hosting partners may process or store information outside Quebec or Canada, including in the United States:
- Neon: PostgreSQL database hosting and storage;
- Vercel Analytics: Site traffic and performance analytics;
- Stream Chat: Real-time storage and delivery of community chat messages;
- Cloudinary: Profile photo and review image CDN storage;
- Formspree: Processing of user inquiries;
- Resend Inc.: Delivery of automated system and transactional emails;
- Google Inc.: Social login authentication (OAuth), Google Maps rendering, city-name coordinate conversion (Geocoding), and service usage analytics (Google Analytics).
We dispose of personal information without delay once the purpose of collection is achieved or upon withdrawal of consent (account deletion).
- Upon account deletion: Your account and personally identifying information (email, name, nickname, profile photos, place of residence) are deleted immediately. Only de-identified statistics (country, gender, years of experience, handicap, deletion date) remain, which cannot identify you.
- Content you posted: Posts, comments, reviews and their photos remain, shown as "Anonymous", to preserve the context of other members' conversations. Names already displayed in rounds, tournaments and chats you took part in stay as they were at the time.
- If you were penalized: to prevent abuse, your email address is kept on a re-registration block list for one year, then discarded automatically. For members who leave without any penalty we keep no email at all, and you are welcome back at any time.
- Statutory Retention: Information required to be kept under applicable laws (e.g., tax/accounting records) will be safely stored separately for the statutory period and then permanently destroyed.
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or suspension of processing of your personal information, and you may contact the Service to withdraw consent. Requests may be sent to our support email.
We implement appropriate technical and administrative safeguards, including data encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest, to protect personal information. However, information processed abroad may be subject to the laws of that local jurisdiction.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites, and we recommend reviewing their respective policies.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, we will post the revised policy within the Service and update the last updated date.
